Bangladesh reports 8 more deaths as infection hovers over 7,000

Eight more deaths from the novel pandemic COVID-19 (coronavirus) have been reported in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 163 in Bangladesh.

Besides, 641 others have been diagnosed with the deadly virus in the country during the time, the highest in a single day. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 7,103.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Professor Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Wednesday.

A total of 641 fresh cases were detected after testing 4,980 samples in 25 institutes including the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) across the country over the last 24 hours, she said, adding that a total of 7,103 people identified with coronavirus.

This is the highest single-day spike in new cases since the first COVID-19 cases were detected in the country on March 8.

About the new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that there are six males and two females. “4 of them are above 60s, 2 of them in their 60s, and two of them are in their 50s”

“Of these 8, six of them are Dhaka residents and 2 from outside Dhaka,” she also said, adding that the total death toll stood at 163 – 137 of them are residents of Dhaka.

Meanwhile, 11 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 150, the health official said.
