Nine more people died of novel coronavirus in Bangladesh over the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 140.
Besides, 309 more people tested positive for coronavirus during the period, raising the number of positive cases in the country to 4,998.
Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Saturday.
Five among nine of the deceased were female and four were male, she said, adding that seven of them were over seventy years.
No new patient recovered in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.
Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 195,920 as of Saturday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.
So far, 2,790,986 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.
Of those infected, 1,834,034 are currently being treated and 58,523 of them are in serious or critical condition, says worldometer.
So far, 781,382 people have recovered.
