Coronavirus: Record deaths 40 and infections 2545 in the last 24 hours

Bangladesh today confirmed highest single-day spike of 40 deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,545 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 650 and the number of total infections stood at 47,153.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Sunday.

A total of 11,876 samples have been tested at 52 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country including the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2545 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 47,153, she said.

Besides, 406 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 9,781, the health official said.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 6,172,448 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 371,186 while 2,744,044 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
