Bangladesh today confirmed 35 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and 2,423 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 781 and the number of total infections stood at 57,563.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Thursday.
A total of 12,694 samples have been tested at 50 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country including the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2423 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 57,563, she said.
Besides, 571 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 12,161, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 6,586,149 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 388,252 while 3,181,180 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
