Bangladesh reports 2,735 new cases, 42 more deaths from coronavirus
The country today confirmed 42 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,735 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 930 and the number of total infections stood at 68,504 .
“Among the dead patients, 33 are male and nine female,” Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.
A total of 12,944 samples have been tested at 52 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country including the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2735 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 68,504, she said.
Besides, 657 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 14,560, the health official said.
Among the 42 new fatalities, 33 are male and nine female, Prof Nasima Sultana said adding, one of them was aged between 11 and 20, three between 21 and 30, one between 31 and 40, seven between 41 and 50, 10 between 51 and 60, 12 between 61 and 70, four between 71 and 80, two between 81 and 90 and two others between 91 and 100.
According to the division-wise data, 25 deaths took place in Dhaka division, eight in Chattogram division, two each in Khulna, Barishal and Mymensingh, and one each in Rajshahi, Sylhet and Rangpur.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Monday afternoon, a total of 7,103,184 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 406,353 while 3,466,691 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
