Bangladesh reports 2,856 new cases, 44 more deaths from COVID-19
The country today confirmed 44 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and 2,856 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 1,139 and the number of total infections stood at 84,379.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Saturday.
A total of 16,638 samples have been tested at 59 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2856 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 84,379, she said.
Besides, 578 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 17,827, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 7,751,899 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 428,488 while 3,973,203 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
