Bangladesh reports highest coronavirus deaths, record cases in last 24hrs
The country today reported highest single-day jump of 53 deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and record 3,862 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 1,262 and the number of total infections stood at 94,481.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Tuesday.
A total of 17,214 samples have been tested at 61 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 3862 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 94,481, she said.
Meanwhile, 2237 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 36,234, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of 8,128,491 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 439,427 while 4,242,270 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
