Coronavirus cases surpass 100,000 in the country

In Bangladesh, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases surpassed 100,000 on the 103rd day of virus outbreak here as 3,803 new cases were reported today by the government’s health directorate.

Bangladesh is now ranked 18th in the world in terms of the highest number of coronavirus infections, while the death toll has reached 1,343 here after 38 deaths were reported in last 24 hours.

Currently, United States is on the top of the list with 2,163,290 virus cases and followed by Brazil (955,377 cases) and Russia (552,549 cases).

However, so far 84,458 Covid-19 cases have been reported in China, from where the virus is believed to have started to spread in December last year.

Bangladesh reported its first three coronavirus cases on March 3 and first death from the deadly virus on March 18.

In a virtual briefing today, Additional Director General of Health Directorate Nasima Sultana said, “Some 17,349 samples were collected in last 24 hours and 16,259 were tested across the country.”

The virus, which has spread to at least 188 countries and regions, already killed more than 451,654 people worldwide, with over 8,416,673 confirmed cases. So far 4,428,414 people recovered from the virus. Europe and the US currently are the worst hit.
