Daily Covid-19 update: 24 more die, 1,687 recovered in 24hrs
Bangladesh has recorded 24 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours pushing up the fatalities to 5,747, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
So far, 310,532 patients have recovered with 1,627 new recoveries, the health authorities said.
Health authorities also reported 1,696 new cases, taking the caseload to 394,827.
Of the new deceased, 18 are men and six are women. Among the total dead, 4,422 or 76.94 percent are men while 1,325 or 23.06 percent are women.
Currently, there are 78,548 active cases in the country.
During the period, 14,958 samples were tested in 110 labs across the country. With this, a total of 2,221,369 samples have so far been tested in the country.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 11.34 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 17.77 percent.
The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh reaching 78.65 percent.
Bangladesh has one of the lowest case fatality rates or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, at 1.46 percent.
Bangladesh reported its first cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18.
