The High Court (HC) of Bangladesh on Wednesday ordered the authorities concerned to take an examination of expelled students of Primary Education Completion (PEC) by December 28 and publish their results by December 31.

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman also ordered the director-general of the Directorate of Primary Education to appear before the court on January 8 with necessary documents, reports UNB.

A local newspaper ran a report on the expulsion of the students on November 19. The matter was brought to the court’s notice by Advocate Zamiul Haque Faisal, M Mahmadul Hasan, Gazi Farhad Reza, and Foizullah Foyez.

According to the report, 15 children were expelled from PEC and equivalent exams on December 15 and 16 for allegedly cheating in the tests.

A High Court bench issued a rule on November 21 and questioned the legality of the students’ expulsion. It also sought an explanation from four respondents, including the primary mass education secretary and DG of the Directorate of Primary Education.

Secretaries to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, director-general of Directorate of Primary Education, director-general of National Academy for Primary Education and chairman of Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board were made respondents to the rule.

Around 15 students have been expelled from ongoing PSC and Ebtedayee examinations started on November 19.

Citing opinions from some academicians, guardians, and psychiatrists, the news reports said the children had been mentally tortured after being expelled from examinations.

Advocate AM Jamiul Hoque Faisal and three other lawyers placed the news report before the HC bench for necessary order to stop expulsion of children from the PSC and Ebtedayee examinations.
