Bangladesh reports 37 more deaths, 2,695 new cases from coronavirus

Bangladesh today confirmed 37 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 2,695 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 746 and the number of total infections stood at 55,140.

Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

A total of 12,510 samples have been tested at 50 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country including the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2695 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 55,140, she said.

Besides, 470 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 11,590, the health official said.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 6,455,111 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 382,531 while 3,068,485 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
