Bangladesh reports record 4,008 coronavirus cases and 43 more deaths

The country today confirmed highest single-day jump of 4,008 new cases of the novel coronavirus and 43 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 1,305 and the number of total infections stood at 98,489.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) online on Wednesday.

A total of 17,527 samples have been tested at 59 authorized coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 4008 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 98,489, she said.

Meanwhile, 1,925 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 38,159, the health official said.

Out of 43 new deaths in coronavirus infections in the country, 28 victims were male while the rest 15 were female.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 8,276,079 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 446,412 while 4,334,745 patients have recovered, according to worldometer data.
