Coronavirus: 22 deaths, 1,541 new cases in Bangladesh

Bangladesh today confirmed 22 more deaths from Covid-19 over the last 24 hours as of Wednesday, taking the death toll to 544. Besides, 1,541 more people tested positive for the virus, which makes 38,292 confirmed cases in total.

Additional Director General (Admin) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the information at a regular online briefing on Wednesday afternoon.

Dr Nasima mentioned that a total of 7,843 samples were collected and 8,015 tested in the last 24 hours. So far, a total of 2,66,456 samples have been tested in the country.

With 346 new recoveries, a total of 7,925 patients recovered from coronavirus till date.

The deceased, of whom 20 were males and two females, belonged to the following age groups: one was between 01-10 years, two between 21-30 years, two between 31-40, two were between 41-50, seven between 51-60, seven between 61-70 and one was between 71-80 years.

21 breathed their last while undergoing treatment at various hospitals while one died at home.

Under division-wise categorisation, 10 hailed from the Dhaka division, 10 from Chittagong and two were from the Sylhet division.

Meanwhile, global deaths from the novel coronavirus infection reached 350,417 as of Wednesday morning, according to the data provided by Johns Hopkins University.

So far, 5,588,400 cases have been confirmed around the world after Covid-19, the disease caused by the new strain of coronavirus, was first reported in China in December last year.

Although cases of new infection keep growing among the infected world population currently, most of them are in mild condition.

Among the currently 2,901,977 infected patients, 2,848,877 are in mild condition, which is 98 percent, Worldometer records in its daily updates. On the other hand, 53,100 of the currently infected patients are in serious condition, and their percentage is only two.

So far, 2,430,593 people have recovered.
