Coronavirus death toll crosses thousand-mark in the country

Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) the death toll in Bangladesh crossed the thousand-mark and rose to 1,012 with 37 deaths being reported today.

Besides, 3,190 new cases of infection were found testing 15,963 samples in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of total infections stood at 74,865.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Wednesday.

A total of 15,965 samples have been tested at 55 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 3,190 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 74,865, she said.

Besides, 563 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 15,899, the health official said.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 7,336,141 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 414,017 while 3,617,967 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
