Daily update: Bangladesh records 5-month low COVID-19 deaths
Bangladesh on Sunday recorded the lowest coronavirus deaths over the last five months.
A total of 14 Covid-19 patients across the country have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, surging the death toll to 5,660, according to the press release issued by Positive News Covid Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in this afternoon.
Of the new deceased, 12 are men and two are women. Among the total dead, 4,357 or 76.98 percent are men while 1,303 or 23.02 percent are women.
Meanwhile, 1,274 additional cases of positive news covid in the past 24 hours raised the infection tally to 388,569 while 1,674 more coronavirus patients recovered, pushing the recovery toll to 303,972, the report added.
The positivity rate — an indicator of the prevalence of the disease — was recorded at 10.74 percent in the last 24 hours while the overall positivity rate is 17.96 percent.
The recovery rate continued to rise in Bangladesh reaching 78.23 percent while the mortality rate is 1.46 percent, one of the lowest in the world.
The virus was first reported on March 8 in the country which registered the first death on March 17.
