World’s ‘largest computer chip’ for AI tasks revealed

Positive News Tech: A Californian-based start-up has unveiled what it says is the world’s largest computer chip, reports BBC. Really it is positive news for modern AI technology.

The Wafer Scale Engine, designed by Cerebral Systems, is slightly bigger than a standard iPad.

The firm says a single chip can drive complex artificial intelligence (AI) systems in everything from driverless cars to surveillance software.

However, one expert suggested that innovation would prove impractical positive news to install in many data centers.

Computer chips have generally come to be smaller and quicker over the years.

Dozens are typically synthetic on a single silicon “wafer”, that is then cut apart to split them from every other.

The most effective laptop CPUs (imperative processing units) have approximately 30 processor cores – each able to handle their personal set of calculations simultaneously.

GPUs (pix processing units) generally tend to have extra cores, albeit less powerful ones.

This has historically made them the desired choice for synthetic intelligence tactics that can be damaged down into several components and run simultaneously, wherein the final results of anyone’s calculation does not determine the input of another.

Examples consist of speech recognition, picture processing, and pattern matching. The most effective GPUs have as many as 5,000 cores.
